Pasadena Transvaginal Mesh Lawyer
What is Transvaginal Mesh?
Transvaginal mesh (pelvic mesh or bladder sling) is a net-like implant
used as a treatment for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary
incontinence (SUI). POP occurs when a woman’s pelvic muscles weaken
and the pelvic organs collapse into the vagina. SUI is when your bladder
lakes urine during physical activity or exertion. The transvaginal mesh
is used to keep the urethra, cervix, and rectum from moving out of place
and “sagging” inside the body cavity.
Side Effects of Transvaginal Mesh
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), around 4,000
injuries were reported between 2005 and 2010 in association with transvaginal
mesh devices. In July 2011, the FDA issued a safety alert which state
that significant problems correlated with surgical mesh for POP repair
often occur. However, a few months later, an FDA advisory panel urged
that mesh for POP be reclassified from a “moderate risk” to
a “high risk” medical device.
Common side effects of transvaginal mesh devices include:
- Vaginal bleeding
- Vaginal scarring
- Vaginal infections
- Vaginal pain
- Urinary problems
- Chronic vaginal drainage
- Lower back pain
- Vaginal tissue erosion
- Pain during intercourse
- Perforations of the bowel, bladder or blood vessels
- Feeling of “fullness” in the lower abdomen
